JACKSON Bird has revealed he was as confused as the rest of Australia when selectors dropped the bombshell that his batting wasn’t good enough to make the Test team.
To say Bird was left slightly disillusioned would have been an understatement, but the wheel turns quickly, and the proud No.11 batsman is now within touching distance of finally breaking back into the Test fast bowling attack.
Bird can laugh about it now and claim the selectors had got it all wrong – he was always an underappreciated batting talent who had simply been out of form … for five seasons.
However, at the time Bird didn’t know what to make of being judged as a batsman when all he’s ever done is bowl – and consistently deliver at Test level.
