Many working-holiday makers to Australia have such a great time their first year, they wish they could return. Fortunately, the Australian Government offers eligible applicants the opportunity to come back to Australia for a second year to work and travel.

Overview of 2nd Year Australian Working Holiday Visas

Your second year Australian working holiday visa allows you to stay for up to 12 months in Australia. You will have the capacity to work during your stay to finance your travel costs; although you may not work for any single employer for more than 6 months.

You must between the ages of 18 – 30 (35 for Irish and Canadian Passport holders) when you submit your application.

Note: if you applied for the 1st year through our website, we will have provided you with the forms and requirements essential for the 2nd year Australian working holiday application.

In the event that you are seeking a second year working holiday visa, please note that you are obliged to have finished 3 months specified work in one of these industries:

  • Plant and animal cultivation
  • Fishing and Pearling
  • Tree Farming and Felling
  • Mining
  • Construction

Specified work must also have been carried out in a qualifying postcode area.

Note: There are no requirements to complete “specified work” on the 2nd Australian working holiday visa. There is no further extensions to the Australian Working holiday visa to continue in Australia you would be required to apply for some form of Skilled Migration.

Your second Australian working visa will permit you to:

  • Stay in Australia for up to 12 months
  • Leave and re-enter Australia as frequently as you wish
  • Work with one employer for up to 6 months
  • Study up to 3 months
  • Return to work for a previous employer from 1st work holiday

2nd Australian Working Holiday Visa Work Requirements

To be eligible for a 2nd year Australian working holiday visa, you must have completed at least 3 months specified work during your first year in Australia.

Specified work is any type of work described in the list below:

Plant and Animal Cultivation

  • Cultivating or propagating plants, fungi or their products or parts.
  • General maintenance crop work.
  • Harvesting and/or packing fruit and vegetable crops.
  • Immediate processing of animal products including shearing, butchery in an abattoir, packing and tanning.
  • Immediate processing of plant products.
  • Maintaining animals for the purpose of selling them or their bodily produce, including natural increase.
  • Manufacturing dairy produce from raw material.
  • Pruning and trimming vines and trees.

Note: Secondary processing of animal products, such as small goods processing and retail butchery is not eligible.

Fishing and Pearling

  • Conducting operations relating directly to taking or catching fish and other aquatic species.
  • Conducting operations relating directly to taking or culturing pearls or pearl shell.

Tree Farming and Felling

  • Felling trees in a plantation or forest.
  • Planting or tending trees in a plantation or forest that are intended to be felled.
  • Transporting trees or parts of trees that were felled in a plantation or forest to the place where they are first to be milled or processed or from which they are to be transported to the place where they are to be milled or processed.

Mining

  • Coal mining.
  • Oil and gas extraction.
  • Metal ore mining.
  • Non-metallic mineral mining and quarrying.
  • Exploration and other mining support services.

Construction

  • Building construction.
  • Heavy and civil engineering construction.
  • Construction services.

Additionally, the work must have been carried out in an eligible postcode area.
